Facelift and Necklift

With age, the skin an subcutaneous layer of the face loose their elasticity, the nasiolabial folds between nose and mouth become evident, and "jowls" appear due to sagging. The face also loses volume. Facelift and necklift improve the appearance and restore a more youthful look. The subcutaneous tissue is repositioned and excess skin on the face and neck is removed. If only the face (cheek, sagging cheeks, chin line) is affected, then shorter incisions are usually sufficient. It is very important to me that the facelift always looks natural.

Surgery

The facelift is performed under general anesthesia. The incision starts at the temple and then runs behind the cartilage at the front of the ear (tragus) to the earlobe and is usually not very visible. If the neck is also lifted, the incision continues around the earlobe behind the ear back into the hairline. The deep subcutaneous connective tissue layer (SMAS or DEEP-plane) is then repositioned and tightened to restore the youthful shape of the face. Excess skin is then removed and the skin is sutured. Drains are usually not necessary. A bandage is not necessary.

After Surgery

The face is swollen for about 1 to 2 weeks. Some bruising may remain for 2 to 3 weeks. Do not be frightened, this is part of a good facelift. Usually the skin of the face feels numb, but without pain. The numbness disappears after a few weeks. The stitches are removed after about 5 to 7 and 10 days. In the first weeks, heavy physical work, sports and sauna should be avoided. After about 3 months the scars begin to subside.

Risks

Acute complications are extremely rare. However, as with any surgical procedure, there are certain risks, such as bleeding, infection or wound healing disorders. You can minimize the risks by not smoking. Swelling, which can cause damage to the facial nerve, is very rare and usually temporary. We will discuss the exact risks in detail during the consultation.
