Autologous Fat Grafting (AFG)

Autologous fat grafting (AFG) is also called lipofilling or autologous fat treatment. It was first performed at the end of the 19th century. At that time with little success. Today we have much better techniques available, so that since the 1990s AFG became popular again. The use of the body's own fat tissue as filling material to compensate for defects and wrinkles or to increase volume has the great advantage that no foreign material need to be used.

AFG is particularly suitable for correcting volume and wrinkles on the face. However, sunken operation scars, as well as volume on the breast (breast augmentation) can also be filled with autologous fat. As in liposuction, the fat is gently removed by suction, collected in a filter system, processed and then injected into the desired area in the same operation. In the face, this technique can usually be performed under local anaesthetic and as an outpatient procedure. A general anaesthesia is better for larger areas.
While other filling materials degrade over time, a large part of the injected fat grows in and then remains permanently. However, since a part of the injected fat is dissolved by the body, at least one further correction with a further AFG treatment is often necessary to achieve an optimal aesthetic result.

Whether lipofilling is an option for you and which risks can occur, we will be happy to discuss during the consultation.
