How can we get rid of bags under the eyes?
Unfortunately, fillers (hyaluronic acid) or Botox do not bring any lasting improvement. As the skin on the lower eyelid is very thin, you should also be careful with fillers. Visible nodules (granulomas) can form there, which are difficult to remove. Surgery is required. A band of connective tissue, the so-called tear trough ligament, marked here with arrows, separates the fat of the eye socket from the zygomatic bone. As the ligament is very firm, the fat of the eye socket bulges forward against the skin, which then gives way. Eye bags result. These eye bag makes you look tired, sad and a little “wasted”.
We enter the fatty layer through the conjunctiva of the eye and open the tear trough ligament tissue from the inside. The existing fat of the eye socket is spread over the zygomatic bone. This technique achieves two things: firstly, the transition between the eye socket and the zygomatic bone no longer appears as harsh, but looks as it did in youth, when there was no visible demarcation between the eye and the zygomatic bone. And secondly, the bags under the eyes disappear. If there are excess wrinkles on the lower eyelid, these can also be removed. In the end, it also looks natural and not artificial.
Just like facelifts, lower eyelid surgery should only be performed by plastic surgeons who are particularly familiar with this special technique. With our special method of operating through the conjunctiva (transconjunctival approach) of the eye, the risk of a “drooping lower eyelid” (so-called ectropion) is extremely low. We would be happy to advise you on how we can eliminate your bags under the eyes.
