The operation is performed under general anesthesia. For a lift limited to the lower abdomen, the mini-abdominoplasty, local anaesthesia may be used. The skin incision is made in a slightly curved shape just above the pubic area. A second skin incision is made at the navel. With mini-abdominoplasty, the navel does not have to be cut. If liposuction is also planned, it is usually started with. In a complete abdominal reduction, the abdominal muscles are tightened in the midline to emphasize the waist. The excess skin is removed. Finally, the navel is repositioned in a new skin opening. The wound secretion is drained via drains. The scars remain visible, but fade over time.

Initially the abdominal skin is swollen and numb. This is normal and improves soon. You will stay in hospital for 1 to 3 days. After the operation you can get up immediately. An abdominal belt should be worn for about 6 weeks. Sport should be avoided for about 6 weeks. Everyday activities are okay, however.

Acute complications are extremely rare. However, as with any surgical procedure, there are certain risks, such as bleeding, infection or wound healing disorders. An infection with poor healing can result in an unsightly scar, which may require scar correction. Wound healing disorders are more common in smokers.
